Download SQLClue
To upgrade an existing SQLClue installations please review the update steps listed below the new installation instructions. Note that the upgrade steps may change for each release.
Install SQLClue Workstation (base SQLClue install - required for Workstation and all Server SQLClue Editions):
Verify that all SQLClue prerequisites are installed on the local system:
SQL Server 2008 SP1 Management Objects. (included in the SQL Server 2008 Client Tools or in the freely redistributable SQL Server 2008 Feature Pack)
- Download the .zip file using the link above and extract the installation executable (.msi) file.
Run the installer while logged on as a local administrator.
- Start SQLClue using the "Run as Administrator" option.
Verify the Workstation installation by completing a compare. See the "Comparing SQL Server Configurations" tutorial under the help menu option to get started.
On Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 it is necessary to run the SQLClue application the first time it is started using the "Run As Administrator" option. This is necessary to create the Source types in the local system that identify messages posted by SQLClue in the Windows Application Event Log as from "SQLClue". Once the Event Log Source labels are created the SQLClue Workstation does not need to run as administrator.
Install SQLClue Server (Initialize the SQL Configuration Archive database components):
Complete the base SQLClue Workstation installation.
Verify that SQL Server 2008 SP1* with Full-Text Search enabled is installed on the local system.
(freely available
SQL Express will work, but get the one that includes Full Text Search)
Start SQLClue
From the Tools menu, select "SQL Configuration Archive" and then select "Install".
In the connection dialog that opens select or enter the local SQL Server instance that will be used to host SQLClue
Accept the provided database name, enter the name of any existing user database, or enter a name for a new database.
- Set any available connection options that SQLClue should use when connecting to the SQL Configuration Archive database and select 'OK'
Verify the Server installation by planning and executing a SQL Configuration Archive. See the "Archiving SQL Configuration" tutorial under the help menu option to get started.
For temporary installations - including trail and evaluation - time limited access begins when the SQL Configuration Archive is installed.

Complete the base/SQL Configuration Archive SQLClue Server install
Start SQLClue
From the Tools menu, select "Data Center Runbook" and then select "Install".
- Accept the provided database name, enter the name of any existing user database, or enter a name for a new database.
- Set any available connection options that SQLClue should use when connecting to the Data Center Runbook database and select 'OK'
Verify the Data Center Runbook installation by adding a document to the Runbook Library. See the "Contributing to the Runbook" tutorial under the help menu option to get started.
Install the Automation Controller Service (Enables task scheduling using the SQLClue Administrator's Console):
Complete the SQLClue Server install
Obtain a Windows user name and password for use as the Automation Conrtroller service start-up account. This account must be added to the sysadmin Fixed Server role of all SQL Servers that will be targeted by the SQL Configuration Archive. It may also require read access to network file system locations where documents included in the Data Center Runbook are stored on an as needed basis.

- download and install the latest build from the Microsoft download site or here.
- Follow the "Base SQLClue Install" installations above, reinstalling all components that have been in use.
- Select or enter the existing database name during the install to attach to your existing database. The application will automatically update the database components with no loss of data.
